(Jeannette turns 51!)

We started the weekend with a trip to the Comedy Club on San Pedro Ave. Cristela Alonzo is a comedienne that I use to like on her TV show years ago. The show was short-lived, however, I remembered her being very funny. She did not disappoint. The show was hilarious. As it turned out, Sylvia's youngest daughter, Jeannette, was turning 51 on August 30th, so it turned into a "birthday" weekend for Sylvia and her daughter.

The laughs went down easy with the drinks and appetizers at the show. Derrick, Jeannette's husband, joined us in the fun. Above are some pictures from that evening. Of note, the last picture is typically how Sylvia and I look since the girl is married to her phone and looks at it about every 3 minutes. So it is included to catch her in her natural habitat. I think she's hypnotized by the glow coming off that tiny screen.

The following evening, we went to Cappy's Restaurant on Broadway. It turned into a little birthday celebration for Jeannette, who is seen holding up a card and a present. Part of the collection of gifts included a ticket for the upcomng concert to see Enrique Iglesias and Ricky Martin. She already has plans to throw herself onstage at the concert. I wouldn't doubt that she finds a way to get onstage right in between those two hunks.

Her husband also joined us as did her granddaughter, Khloe, who was crucial in helping to blow out the candle on Jeannette's chocolate birthday cake/dessert.

We feasted on shrimp nachos, crab cakes, and the Denver steak. Sylvia had the ribeye and Derrick had some delicious fish tacos. A very filling meal. We may have stayed too long eating because we didn't leave until about 9:30, when we realized that we were the last ones in the restaurant (which actually closed at 9:00 pm ... oops!).

As if we hadn't partied enough at that point, Sylvia wanted to treat her daughter to an Italian dinner on her actual birthday, August 30th. So we went to Scuzzi's Italian Grill on HWY. 1604 for a late afternoon lunch. We had 3 cheese ravioli and eggplant parmesian for appetizers and lasagna and chicken marsala for our entrees. But by then, we were way too full to even consider dessert. All-in-all, it was an outstanding culinary weekend. Now we just need to starve ourselves for the next week to burn off all those calories.

The waiter was gracious enough to take a picture of all three of us.
