They say that "it takes a village to raise a child" for those children to experience and grow in a positive environment and in Jordan's case, it seems to be so true. Although Cynthia has had the brunt of the responsibility, the extended family has given love and support to bring her to this point in her life. It's almost hard to believe that this day has come and that she is grown and ready to take on the world.
With her family looking on, we all cheered and became more excited than the graduating girl herself.
James and a very proud Cynthia look on as Jordan walks across the auditorium stage to pick up her diploma. You may notice the red sash which was given in honor for her work with TASE (Texas Association of Studant Education). It required 3 years of competition and was awarded to only 12 graduates that year. Less obvious is the blue & red cord she wore for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher during her HS years.
Jennifer and Michael were the first outside to greet the graduating girl.
Of course, she was showered with silly string as soon as she made an appearance. Somehow a fun tradition that we refuse to let die! Of note: You can see the Blue and Red cord she wore best in the middle picture where she is wearing all of that silly string.
END OF AN ERA
On her 34th birthday, Cynthia got a money frame. It was the start of a regular present that often made it's way to the birthday girl of the month. But now it has come full circle and is being given for the last time to her daughter on her high school graduation. This seems like a good time to retire the gift. It has lost it's surprise, even though I tell everyone that it is a picture of me, naked, on a bear skin rug AND HAVE EVEN GIVEN THAT PHOTO AS A GIFT TWICE!!! (My head photoshopped on Burt Reynolds body, of course.)
Anyway, I hope she enjoys it as she explores all the possibilities her life has to offer.
