As it turns out, Valentine's Day falls close to our 'anniversary' (February 10th) which was our first date together at a place called Down on Grayson. This year happened to be our 3rd year together!
We made special plans to spend the week together for the romantic holiday! It started with flowers delivered to Sylvia's house from Bloomshop florist on FM 78 close to where she lives. I'm horrible about keeping secrets but this was a complete surprise for her! I also was surprised with a huge heart-shaped Valentine balloon!
Of course, we exchanged cards (pictured above)! My card to her on the right says, "Guess who loves you today." On the inside it says, "The same person who loves you everyday but today, you get a card."
There were a variety of gifts given, although almost all of them were not secret! As I mentioned, I'm terrible at keeping secrets so Sylvia either guessed (or I told her) about most of them. They included an upcoming trip to Nashville, Tennessee for the 2 of us during her birthday in May! Neither of us had ever been there and after Cynthia's recent trips there, I figured it was time to see the country music capital. Also, she mentioned that she had never been to Niagara Falls and I arranged for a trip to Buffalo, NY and Niagara Falls for 3 nights/4 days in early September over labor day! I gave her a tee shirt to wear for the trip. I never mentioned the bottle of M&Ms but the cheatin' womin' guessed what it was before opening it by shaking the wrapped gift! Sheeesh!
But on February 14th, we had made reservations to Bohanan's Prime Steak and Seafood Restaurant on Houston Street in Downtown San Antonio! I had been there one other time with Sylvia. It is an upscale plush place with outstanding steaks, service and food! After parking the car, and before entering the restaurant, we stopped into Gallery Vetro -- a beautiful shop across the street from the restaurant with exquisite pieces of blown glass! There were several "hearts" that captured Sylvia's attention and, of course, we just had to get one of them for the special occasion!
When we arrived at Bohanan's, it took about 15 - 20 minutes to get our table ready. This was fine with us because it gave us time to use the restroom, Sylvia took longer to use the restroom than I did, and sit at the bar for a few minutes to sip a cocktail and listen to a great jazz trio play some music! Pictured is Sylvia's BlackBerry Vodka Sour! (Actually, we both had the same cocktail!)
The meal was fantastic. We started with a crab cake and a shared Cesar Salad. We both had the most scrumptious steaks with bearnaise sauce! I had a well-done New York Strip while Sylvia had a medium-well ribeye steak! As usual, she always picks the best tasting entre, but both steaks were seasoned to perfection! Our sides included Lobster Mac-n-cheese, spinach creamed corn and Au Gratin potatoes. Everything was so filling, we only got through about half of our food before we asked the waiter to box it up for us to take home. Fortunately, we did save a little room for a slice of delicous almond cheesecake which we shared!
Of course, being the most romantic day of the year, the evening didn't end there! I had to get up early to play golf the next day, but let me tell you that Sylvia just wouldn't let me get the rest I needed to play a decent game! Being the gentleman that I am, that's all I'm going to say. (Ask her if you want to know more...)
