Attending the Parade of Lights on the Riverwalk
November 26, 2021

Every year during the end-of-year holidays, there is a Parade of Lights on the Riverwalk. I had never attended before and it had been several years since Sylvia had, so we decided to brave the cool, early winter weather and head downtown once again.

Because of the large crowds that this event draws, only a limited number of people can actually go down to the riverwalk level and so, we made reservations at one of the many restaurants lining the river -- Bubba Gump Shrimp Company! Of course there are also huge crowds along the bridges over the San Antonio River itself.

Our waiter, Travis, shown in the slightly blurry picture to the right, was fantastic and quizzed us on all things pertaining to the movie, Forrest Gump.

The parade was preceded by a pre-fixe dinner that started with a shrimp mac-n-cheese appetizer, salad and gumbo. For her main entre, Sylvia had the ribeye steak (medium-well) with mashed potatoes and broccoli and I had the Seafood Feast! (Because I had no actual vegetables on my plate, she made me eat a couple of her broccoli heads because she said she didn't want all that gas. It's nice to have a girlfriend who shares her gas-producing vegetables with you.) All of this went down easy with some strawberry margaritas. It was all so filling that we ended up taking our desserts, chocolate brownie & cheesecake, home for later.

But the real event of the evening was the steady flow of boats lit up with beautiful lights and loaded with happy people who were singing and waving as they went by. We even danced a waltz (thanks to recent dancing lessons) to one of the songs playing on one of the floats. Sylvia took lots of pictures and videos. I happened to catch her in the act with the middle, upper picture (above).

We had a really fun night. To the right is Sylvia, wishing everyone a happy holiday season.

Unfortunately, because of the traffic, I had to park about a half-mile away from the restaurant. But it was a cool night and pleasant walk with a beautiful, lovely lady holding my hand.
