Las vegas sign New York Trip (page 2)
October 2021

Las vegas hotel room
The picture above almost looks like a postcard. It was taken on the ferry to Liberty Island. The Statue of Liberty is in the foreground and the Manhattan skyline is seen in the background. You can tell that it was a hazy fall day. The tallest building is ONE WORLD TRADE CENTER which was built to replace the Twin Towers.

Below is a picture of our hotel, The Westin at Times Square. It's location was ideal and only one block from bustling Times Square and one block south of the Hard Rock Cafe. The picture to the right is George looking through the hole of the biggest donut we have ever seen. This was in the lobby of the hotel. (It was made of wood, so it was not edible...too bad!)

One of the last things we did on the night before flying back home was a trip to the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING. The building has a museum with all kinds of information about the building. One of the most fun, however, was the association with King Kong. Here, Sylvia does her best Fay Wray imitation as she is grabbed by King Kong.

Part of the fun of visiting New York is sampling all of the great food the city has to offer. Above, from left to right, Sylvia having lunch at the China River restaurant on 44th street; Standing in front of Carlo's pastries; Having her way with a burger deluxe from the Hard Rock Cafe; and finally sampling some New York pizza from Carnegie Pizza place. It looks like she ate everywhere and you may notice that I am not in any of those pictures. (Okay, okay... I ate all of that stuff also.) The apple cinnamon turnover, brownies and cannoli from Carlo's Pastry Shop were delicious.

Part of the charm of New York City & especially Times Square is the variety of weirdness that you see practically on every other corner. Here is Sylvia taking a picture with "spike-man" (at least that's what we named him) ! We also bumped into Professor Doc Brown from BACK TO THE FUTURE and Sylvia got to sit in his Delorean Car for a picture. And on one walk, this cast of characters ran up to us and took pictues with us. Surprisingly, they were quite demanding in terms of how much money they wanted for posing with them even though we didn't even ask them and were sort of forced into the photo. They suggested $20, but we ended up giving them $4 for the picture.

A couple of final pictures shows George waiting for the subway and Sylvia on the Seaglass Carousel in Battery Park in South Manhattan.
