Visit the Moody Center in Austin

Nov 21, 2024

One of Sylvia's favorite country bands, Little Big Town, was headlining at the Moody Center in Austin. So we took an overnight trip to see them. It was a great night of music with two opening acts, THE CASTELLOWS and SUGARLAND, playing sets before they came on! On top of that we got a surprise guest appearance as KEVIN BACON came out during Sugarland's set and played a couple of songs with the group.

We stayed downtown at the Holiday Inn Express, picked for it's proximity to the bus line taking us straight to the Moody Center about a mile north of the hotel. It was a pleasant surprise -- very clean, great location and very polite helpful staff!

After a brief check-in and a couple of hours rest, we headed for the music center. Initially, we planned to take the bus but another couple we met in the lobby were also attending the concert that night, so we shared an Uber!

As it turned out, many of the roads were blocked for various events in the area, so despite the fact that we had an Uber, we still had a couple of blocks to walk to the facility! It was a beautiful venue, however, and we had great floor seats to the event.

The opening act, THE CASTELLOWS, were a relatively new group with wonderful harmonies centered around 3 sisters who fronted the group.

On top of all that, one of the biggest surprises of the evening was the guest appearance by KEVIN BACON, who blended right in with the group as if he was a long-time member of Sugarland.

The final group left no doubt as to who were the headliners. They announced that they had been together for "25" years and that this was an anniversary show!

They played all of Sylvia's favorites including Hell-yeah, Little White Church, Wine-Beer-Whiskey, and Girl Crush! Sylvia was up on her 'boots' dancing the rest of the night!

It was about 3 hours of great music.
Painting We walked to the bus stop which was about a block away and fortunately only waited about 2 minutes before the bus came. The Austin night air had become cooler, into the low 50's, but we anticipated this and brought our jackets. Naturally, Sylvia had her fringe denim jacket that she bought in Nashville. Since it was late and we hadn't eaten since lunch, we walked to a food truck park about 2 blocks from the hotel and settled on some pizza before heading to the hotel. A great night overall!
