It's been a pandemic year with the Coronavirus and so, being unable to make our intended trip to Boston and Cape Cod this year, we decided to make our way to Lake Tahoe for a long weekend. We flew into Reno, Nevada on September 17th and drove to North Lake Tahoe for 4 days and 4 nights. We rented a condominium so that all nine of us could be together.
The group included: James, Cynthia, Jordan, Kevin, Erica, Stella, and good ol' Dad. We were joined the following night by Michelle and Sophia.
It was a relaxing out-doorsy type of weekend with walks around the lake. During our stay we enjoyed a little pool time (the condo had a heated pool) and a little kayaking at King's Beach which was almost within walking distance from our condo. The weather was near perfect. About 70 in the daytime and dipping into the 50's at night. I am not sure why we are all giving the "peace" sign in the picture to the right, but we were ordered to do so by Erica.
The grandkids (all 4 of them) made for a full weekend. The three young ones got along surprisingly well with Kevin entertaining Stella and Sophia for much of the weekend.
On Friday night, September 18th, we had a party to celebrate Cynthia's birthday! After bringing out a cake and singing, "Happy Birthday", she got to open all of her presents and also enjoy some Tequila Sunrise jello shots that Erica made (see picture in slide carousel below). Below are flowers that James bought for Cynthia from the High Sierra Florest shop in Incline Village. The picture on the right is of us having a toast to Mom at Caliente's Mexican Restaurant. I can attest to the fact that we all drank and ate way too much that night. Also, part of the fun evening was that a nearby table kept belting out
"Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond and, of course, we had to join in everytime they did!
(Go, Red Sox!) The picture on the left, below was taken of a sunset over Lake Tahoe from our balcony at the condo.
Perhaps the most fun day of the entire trip was on Saturday, September 19. It would have been Connie's and my 48th wedding anniversay. I know she would have loved to be there. We took a trip to the area in 2006 and it would have been a nice return trip. However, on this Saturday, we took a trip to South Lake Tahoe and rented a 2-hour sunset cruise around the bay. Scotty (seen in the pictures below) was our Captain and took us around the southern part of the lake, filling us with sights and stories related to the Lake Tahoe area. It really was the highlight of the trip.
