It was a week full of birthdays as the girls came together to celebrate not only Michelle's 32nd birthday, but also Jordan's 17th birthday and Kevin's 4th birthday. As has been the case more often than not, Michelle's, Jordan's and Kevin's birthdays seem to get all mashed together. Since Michelle and Clint come in from out of town and both Erica and Cynthia have hectic work schedules, we had to pick a weekend that everyone could squeeze into their schedule. The weekend of January 22-24 happened to fit well for everyone involved.
The pictures show us at the Melting Pot Restaurant: (left) James and Kevin enjoying a dessert fondue; (right) Jordan and Grandpa getting a "special" dessert from the waiter.
Of course, it was Michelle's birthday also. She is posing before she got to enjoy her birthday cake and presents back home. In fact, we had two cakes made for the occasion. A neighbor of mine made an Oreo Cheesecake that was just incredible. Not to be outdone, Andrew (who is turning out to be quite a chef) made a chocolate cake with marshmallow frosting. Wow! I just wish someone had taken pictures of those 2 delicious cakes.
And then came THE ESCAPE ROOM...
The big event of the weekend was THE EXTREME ESCAPE ROOM! It was a great experience with disappointing results. They stuck us in a room for 60 minutes and we had to find clues to get out of the room before our time was up. I truly believe that their clock was fast because that was the quickest 60 minutes that I ever saw. We actually did fairly well and got through about 3/4 of the clues, but, alas, had it been real life --- we would all be dead or forever locked in that room!!! Still, a lot of fun. You can see from the signs we're holding in the photos above, we didn't solve the puzzle.
It was so bad that we had to go drown our sorrows in sushi and sake!
After the escape room, we headed to the Godai Sushi Bar and Japanese Restaurant in north San Antonio. As you can see from the middle picture, Stella could not get enough of the noodles. It was fun just watching her try to eat those neverending, long noodle strands. But we had such a big group that we had to sit at two different tables. To the left: Erica, Stella, Andrew, Jennifer, Cynthia, Kevin, Noah and James. (note the empty bottle of Sake at the end of the table in front of Erica) To the right: Michelle, Clint, Sophia, Jordan and George.
Kevin with one of his many presents. As you can see on the slot machine behind Kevin, he "hit the jackpot" in terms of presents that weekend. (Ok, sorry, bad Dad joke! But I can't help it. It comes with the age.)
On the next night, Cynthia wanted to specifically celebrate Kevin's birthday and a few or us went to Peter Piper's Pizza. The worst part of that evening was the $5 bet I lost to Jordan at the basketball hoops where she scored 30 points to my 28 points. AND basketball use to be my game! I guess I'm getting too old to compete with a 17 year old. (Damn it). All in all, it was a party weekend and everyone had a blast. Below are some pictures from Peter Piper.
