Boston Trip (page 2):
Duck Tour, Museum of Science, Harbor Cruise, & Faneuil Hall
October 7-9, 2022

After a restful but way-too-short night of sleep, we got up early enough to get ready for the first part of our next day in Boston. I had scheduled a Boston Duck Tour from the Prudential Center which fortunately was about a 10 minute walk away. Arriving early, we went into the Star Market which had a Starbucks attached, and I got coffee while Sylvia got a breakfast sandwich.

The Duck Tour was a blast! 'Captain' Rodriguez even got to drive the boat part of the way! Here are a couple of pictures of her driving and NOT crashing our boat! The top middle photo shows the Museum of Science which we passed a couple of times while traveling on the Charles River. It will come up again later in our story.

After the Duck Tour, we decided to visit the Boston Museum of Science and Planetarium. This was my favorite museum growing up.

After a brief stop at the hotel, we jumped on the Green Line to the Science Park exit. The museum was a short walk from there. We were greeted by the T. Rex outside the building. He didn't even seem to notice us?

One of our favorite poses was getting Sylvia to look as if she's holding up the entire world with one hand! Not only that, I caught her coming out of the Apollo 13 space craft! She's more amazing than Forrest Gump!

There were large number of "hands-on" exhibits and we tried a bunch of them. We were also able to take in a Planetarium show that focused on exploring Mars. It was so soothing that I have to admit both Sylvia and I might have dozed off a bit during the presentation.

Range Cafe Range Cafe After a few hours at the Museum of Science, we both were starving. It was late afternoon and I had not eaten anything and Sylvia had that small breakfast sandwich about 7 hours earlier, so we once again jumped on the subway and ended up in Davis Square at one of my all time favorite eating places, Mike's Restaurant and Spirits! Whenever I go to Boston, we somehow end up here. Now I have to admit, that we over-ordered because the menu was extensive and we had a hard time deciding. Sylvia got a meat-lovers calzone. I got an eggplant parmesian sub sandwich (the 3rd item on my food checklist) and just for grins, we got a plate of Baked Ziti's. Way-too-much food. We took home 3 to go boxes.

Worn out and full, we dragged ourselves back home to our over-priced cave for the evening!

On our final full day in Boston, we started the day with a late-morning harbor cruise!

The bottom right picture of Sylvia on the cruise is one of my favorite photos of the trip!
It was a good thing that we bought the BOSTON HOODIE that she is wearing since there was a brisk cool breeze on the boat!

Below are some of the sights that we happened to come across. The middle picture in the second row is the Massachusetts State House, which played a big part during the Revolutionary War! Today it is mostly a tourist attraction. Sylvia managed to do a little shopping along the way!

One of my favorite hangouts is Faneuil Hall. Part of Faneuil Hall is Quincy Market which has a ton of shops and a huge variety of food to eat. You can see the crowd of people ordering from a large variety of food vendors. At the top of this page, you can see Sylvia eating a slice of Hawaiian Pizza. I'm not sure I would have picked that flavor, but I have to admit, it was pretty good! I was able to get my last two items on my list of foods to eat while in Boston. I bought two cannoli and a ricotta cheesecake. I would have liked to have bought them from Mike's Pastry shop in North Boston, but we never made it there. These were good substitues.

Also, commonly seen especially on weekends, are a number of street performers and entertainers in the market place.
A statue of Samual Adams, founding father and leader of the American Revolution, guards the entrance of the market!
(It seems like everyone is standing on something at Quincy Market!)

Tired and mostly worn out from our trip, we sauntered back to our hotel. Having passed by the Boston Public Library multiple times during our visit, Sylvia wanted to go inside to see what it looked like. To me, it was awkward, because while it is a beautiful Boston treasure, it actually IS a library and there were people trying to study there. So it was a strange combination of studying students and touristy onlookers snapping pictures!

We had an early morning flight at 7:00 a.m., so we were up and ready to leave the hotel at 5:00. Sylvia took this photo of the sunrise coming up over the airplane. On take off, we were able to get a picturesque photo of Boston harbor with the JETBLUE wing in the foreground. And here, once again, are two tired, but happy travelers at the end of the trip headed home. (When we got home, we slept for about 3 hours!)

Now don't get me wrong! There are more than 5 items that I would have liked to eat in Boston but at this age, I had to be selective. Maybe on our next trip we can try the cheesesteak subs or the lobster rolls or the fried scallops or Sicilian pizza or the macaroon cookies or....
